University - Industry Cooperation in Curriculum Development and Delivery

1 Mileta Tomovic, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN 47907 [email protected] Abstract The industrial involvement with universities can range from defining the goals for the entire programs to more limited involvement in a single course. This paper presents a case study on the author’s experience with industrial involvement in defining, developing and delivering graduate level course for students interested in metalcasting design. The industry leaders were consulted regarding the issues related to the current state of the art in metalcasting design, as well as designer responsibilities and expectations, and on the communication channels between different engineering departments involved in the design and manufacturing process.
